N, F, and T may just be celebrities now in the world of alphabets. Recently, those three letters have found their way to every lip in the tech space. Perhaps it’s the billions of dollars in trades associated with them, or maybe it’s the vibrant digital sub-culture that has sprung up and still waxing strong. Perhaps it’s the whole parallel reality being built out of what those letters represent, or maybe it’s just the result of the new direction of ever-changing human sentiments.

Suppose you’ve been under a rock or haven’t checked the news, with the letters put together, NFT, is an acronym for Non-Fungible-Token, a new form of digital certification based on the new web (tagged Web3) that guarantees ownership of any piece of digital content. They are unique cryptographic tokens that serve as an ownership container for digital content. Many content types have leveraged these tokens to establish ownership and provably transfer ownership, with videos and graphics being the most common. Some other content types include text, tweets, code, audio content, event tickets, etcetera.

While this means of ownership is crucial to the new web so that users generate content and independently and provably own the content created when published, what’s also important is how ownership is transferred or traded for some other form of value. The current media available to trade ownership primarily or secondarily are NFT marketplaces. There are some pretty interesting ones that exist out there, the most famous being Opensea. How popular is Opensea? Well, the 2017 founded marketplace with over 1million followers on Twitter recently broke its monthly trade volume record of $3.4B after trades spiked in January 2022, resulting in over $3.5B changing hands in that single month. Perhaps, infamous is a better adjective to describe the digital assets marketplace.

That claim can be justified by considering the several recent mishaps with the NFT marketplace. Let’s consider how the NFT marketplace announced its $13.6B valuations the same day an artist complained of her work being plagiarized 86,000 times in its market. Probably nothing? We beg to differ. Artists put a lot of time and hard work into art creation, and if some web hoodlums and fraudsters do not respect that, marketplaces should at least set up hurdles to make fraud and plagiarism a little bit unbearable. The NFTmarketplace, in consideration, on the other hand, makes available a feature named “Lazy Minting,” which allows users to sell NFTs first before actually writing it on-chain to prevent the instance of wasted network fees. Of course, this is applaudable; it’s a feature other marketplaces have even adopted, but without a proper vetting system or identification system, this feature leads to more harm than good, as we’ve seen in the case of Arja, the victimized artist.

With point 1 in mind, let’s consider another challenge, earlier in an NFT creation process before it even gets to a marketplace like Opensea. Collections usually set up a storefront, i.e., the NFT project website, for primary mint or sale, before getting listed on Opensea for secondary exchange. Even at this stage, NFTouts have demonstrated their deviance. Adidas’ first Ethereum NFT airdrop is an interesting story to note. With 30,000 Addidas Original NFTs minted on Ethereum, 9,620 of them were offered for sale to the public after some early access sale and project reserve. They set a sale cap of two NFTs per customer, perhaps to guarantee approximately even widespread distribution. A rationally good plan, but what happened with the sale, they didn’t see coming. That’s not the only point to be made in regards to this topic. At least not after we take your mind back to the cartoonish dick picks that were sent unsolicitedly to the Ethereum address of Budweiser, the beer brewer, or the endless spamming of Cozomo de’ Medici, Snopp Dogg’s Pseudonymous NFT space persona. He testified himself that a marketplace that could solve the spamming problem would “rocket past Opensea.” We think he’s predicted rightly.

All of the aforementioned problems arise from a fractured foundation of the blockchain space that holds no one accountable. Developing a storey building of solutions on top of a fractured foundation only leads to a great fall as we’d expect. The almost non-existent ID system, as mentioned in the first case with Opensea, is the underlying problem with NFT marketplaces. Cameron Hejazi, the CEO of U.S.-based content and NFT platform, Cent, which sold Twitter’s former CEO Jack’s first Tweet, describes the problem with the most intuitive analogy - a whack-a-mole game. The instant you ban one, two, or three more unrecognised accounts, spring back up. The smart-contract family evasion of the Addidas NFT fits in the same shoe, unaccountable smart contracts roaming free.

We could tease and criticize the most famous NFT marketplace being easily penetrable to bots, fraudsters, and scammers; after all, it’s named OPEN-sea, but the scar cuts deeper than this single NFT marketplace. The flaw breaks through the epidermal layer of dapp platforms down to the dermal layer of chain architecture and infrastructure. If not addressed from that depth, attempted solutions will only be like a plaster on a sore wound.

Of course, a solution that still upholds the core tenets of the blockchain is critically needed. NFTs are maybe at the peak point now, but the fraud and plagiarism headlines plastered around the first page of a google search could quickly poison that positive sentiment. NFT marketplaces, new or existing, need to stand on a structure that still holds users accountable although maintains freedom and upholds privacy. A chain that does not know its users but knows that its users are real. This way, every address(es), user account owned or smart contract owned, belongs to a user verified as real although unknown to the chain.

The technology described here can best be seen with Concordium and the BictoryNFT marketplace on the verge of launching. Concordium, a public privacy-focused POS blockchain, combines freedom with accountability. To get on to the network, you need to complete a KYC process with notable and recognized Identity custodians around the world, who checks and verify that you are indeed a real person before you can get your initial address on the Concordium chain. After the Identity verification, the user receives a User Identity Certificate (UIC) and the initial account. The only parties aware of the connection between the initial account and the user are the Identity provider. However, for more privacy, the user can create additional accounts with the received Certification, which the ID provider cannot link to him unless there is a legal warrant that requires the user’s anonymity to be revoked by anonymity revokers and the ID providers working together. Too complex to comprehend? Here’s an abridged version: You work with a third party, not Concordium, (Notable ID Provider) to get an initial account and a certificate. While the ID provider is aware of the connection of this initial account and you, creating a new additional account and transacting with it, keep your dealings private (The third party cannot connect it to you). However, if you’ve been a bad boy on-chain, the chain can come to a consensus to expose you and surrender you to the law.

If the hefty benefits of this approach are not yet visible across all of the dapps, especially marketplaces that would be birthed on a chain like this is not yet visible, permit me to bring you into the light;

- All accounts/addresses, although private, are verified to be real via this approach. Bots may exist at a minimal amount, but if they have badly behaved, their creator can be fished out and flogged at stake.

- There is an available framework to harness in verifying NFT smart contract authors before purchasing, disincentivising rug-pulling.

- Primary mint storefronts have a framework to implement a sale cap per user by allowing only level 1 (initial) accounts at the primary sale.

- Setting up a firewall to combat spam is also a development that can be envisioned with such a chain architecture.

NFT is a bubble, many claimed. It will swallow up investments and come cascading down just like the 2017 ICO crash — I’ll spare the dot com bubble the shame in this article. The first wave of hype and greed came, with NFTs selling for millions of dollars, even the most caricature looking ones. Right after, things went quite a bit. You could hear the “I told you so” whispers of skeptics and critics cropping up from every corner in a myriad of variations. Less than a year later, the tides rose up again to commence a second wave which the current wave we are currently riding on has overlapped itself.

Skeptics and critics have gone quiet, mostly covering their faces with their hands in shame (Somebody tell Beeple this would be a great NFT art Idea! ). Some believers have become skeptics but are gradually repenting of their doubts because of the seemingly unending length of this new wave and the big names endorsing it. Celebrities and superstars have jumped on the bandwagon by either selling show tickets or other products as NFTs or acquiring some apes. Big businesses have grabbed either a piece of land on the metaverse or some collectibles or both. In my opinion, if you asked for it, I’d say it takes a pretty interesting approach.

Driven and steered by its aim to make the now popular blockchain technology more business-ready, It approaches the existing state of the tech with a methodology that retains some of its best parts like permissionlessness, openness as well as privacy, and introduces some unique features too like an ID layer built directly into its core protocol and a double layer consensus mechanism. These simple-looking features yet profound goes a long way to position Concordium as the home of Dapps in the long term.

The primary reason for the above claim of a long-term positioning for the blockchain is simple — regulations are coming! Mass-adoption too! We can already tell by all of the support and attention of this new piece of technology and its theme of decentralization. While the brightest of minds and most studious struggle to keep abreast with it, the government must feel like dullards of the class. They are probably dazzled into dizziness by the speed at which this vehicle moves so much so, that to determine how to keep their feet in the water and regulate it without shooting themselves in that same foot or stifle innovation seems almost like an impossible task. We empathize with them, and Concordium must just be the most empathetic as they’ve provided a solution with them in mind.

**Concordium’s Layer1 ID Protocol**

Concordium’s in-built ID layer takes a lot of weight off of their shoulders. It would indeed be in their best interest to push Concordium mainstream. The reason for the above statement is the same reason; primarily, the government is spending millions in tracking and combating privacy coins — Identification and taxation. It would also claim those actions are taken for consumer protection. Well, let’s say we believe them and accept their actions as only noble because, in truth, privacy coins have been a menace as they’ve constantly served as a vehicle for exchanging all kinds of contraband on the dark web. An objective consideration of this builds a case for Concordium’s core ID layer.

Before the violent reactions troll in from crypto purists and OG’s ( thankfully, Medium doesn’t have a dislike button, thanks to Evan, you’re a great guy!), I should quickly state that your ID on Concordium isn’t left displayed to the public like some ad on a billboard, rather it keeps you anonymous like any blockchain would and even private if you can afford the fees for those kinds of transactions. However, suppose you’ve been a bad boy, and the government needs to find you, by its compliant positioning, Concordium provides a channel for consensual de-anonymization of your identity, only to the requester (anonymity is retained to the general public), by its partner off-chain identity providers in different jurisdictions collaborating with its on-chain identity revokers. You can read more of this interesting piece of technology in its whitepaper, as that is not the focus of this article.

**Concordium’s Two-Layer Consensus Mechanism**

Concordium is a Proof of Stake (PoS) blockchain that employs Nakamoto’s competitive approach of miners or validators, in this case, to update the blockchain. While this approach holds up its resistance for up to 50% of bad actors in the network, it takes some time to achieve block finality i.e prevent transactions reversal. Concordium ingeniously layers a Committee-based Byzantine Fault Tolerance (CBFT) consensus, which is known to be able to achieve almost instant block finality but fails on the attack of above 33.33% or 1/3 of bad actors in its network nodes. This brilliant combination allows Concordium to harness the best of both approaches; meteoric block settlements when threats in the network lie below the yield point of the CBFT consensus algorithm but when above falls back to the strength of the Nakamoto Style Consensus when the bad guys come in greater numbers but below Nakamoto’s Achilles heel.

**What does all of this mean for NFTs on Concordium?**

As we may all already know by now, NFTs are unique cryptographic tokens on the blockchain that serve as some sort of ownership tag and certificate of authenticity & originality over any digital content, including images, gifs, tweets, e-collectibles, audio, code, etcetera. Some physical items are getting tokenized too.

The billions of dollars shift in capital caused by these phenomena tokens convinces us of their relevance — No one is crazy enough to throw such a huge amount of money on some worthless pieces of tokens, right? …right? (no response). Well, regardless of all of the craziness and hype in this space, NFTs have their utilities, and the scope of use cases are widening by the day, and NFTs on Concordium will be no different, but maybe a little more interesting and future-proof.

**Non-Fungible Interoperability**

Worthy of the first note, NFTs on Concordium run on Concordium’s CIS-1 protocol. CIS-1, which stands for Concordium Interoperability Standard 1, governs how token contracts and tokens operate on the Concordium blockchain. It sets a framework for how both fungible and Non-fungible tokens should be designed and implemented on the Concordium blockchain. Besides the ease of CIS-1 given the simplified protocol module and multi-language support, NFTs built on the CIS-1 framework have the propensity to travel between shards on the Concordium blockchain as well as even outside of the blockchain without the use of any bridging plugins. This will be a huge payoff as businesses start to employ Concordium’s private shards for different commercial purposes while still keeping up some B2B interactions.

**Menacing Cost Amended**

Cost is a major menace when it comes to minting NFTs because they execute more complicated computations on the blockchain and it is generally known that Proof of Work (PoW) blockchains are generally more expensive than their PoS counterparts. This reveals the benefit of Concordium being a PoS blockchain as NFTs can be minted cheaper. Considering the Two-Layer Consensus mechanism we’ve discussed, they can be minted faster and save businesses the time cost of production. Another important feature NFT businesses on the Concordium blockchain will be lucky to have is the fixed fees baked into its protocols. Detached from the market price of Concordium’s Global Transaction Unit (GTU), this reliable fee structure would aid capital planning and budgeting for businesses whose future estimations and calculations are critical to their success.

**You, Not Your Address, own your NFT**

NFTs are a many-to-one or a one-to-one pointer or representation (depending on its rarity) to our digital content, not the content itself. The blockchain on which the token is minted is aware of this as well as the rightful owner of the content. This is based on the information stored in the token’s metadata — a data reference to the actual represented data such as its name and URL or CID in the case of IPFS stored content. Therefore, traditional blockchains are only aware of a string of characters that are supposed to represent the rightful owner of an NFT with no connection whatsoever with real-world identities. The implication of this truth is profound. For one, the bad guys are strengthened and some good ones converted by psychological deindividuation to act rashly towards the network or other network members.

Secondly, relative to traditional account security on Web2.0, the security of Web3.0 accounts, aka wallets, are feeble. This is because there are no means to attach extra security measures because the blockchain has no framework to hinge it on. Hence the crypto cliche, Not your Keys, Not you Crypto, proves true every time.

With Concordium, However, Addresses are mapped to real-world identities. Not only does this deter bad actors from being in their worst behaviour, when the keys to your address which holds your very expensive NFTs are lost, or fall into the wrong hands, it’s not game over. You still have some hope of retrieving what’s rightfully and provably yours because of Concordium’s tethering our blockchain-ID, aka our address, to our real-world ID.

The blockchain-to-real-world ID mapping opens up a plethora of possibilities, easy NFT taxation implementation being the least. Talk about digital asset inheritance in the case of the death of the owner. A combination of the CIS-1 updateOperator token function and the real-world ID, which can be extended to accommodate next of kin, could automatically trigger a transfer after a period of account dormancy. The possibilities are endless literally, especially when we include its implementation in the budding metaverse.

**Conclusion**

The use-cases of NFTs are exponentially growing by the day, with the metaverse being the largest application of it yet. Although no one knows how far its growth will be, it’s certain now that it must grow on the right foundation, so it doesn’t cave in. Ethereum, Solana, and all other host blockchains are doing a great job at nurturing their growth. Still, some missing pieces in their core create a loophole for a lot of cancerous growth in the technology, and fixing this might require some tearing down and rebuilding. The Concordium blockchain, on the other hand, has considered these weaknesses and, by solid research, developed a solution that delivers NFTs and digital assets as a whole on steroids.

Bictory’s NFT marketplace will be the first of its kind on the Concordium blockchain taking this curated approach. We will also help artists build and deliver their collections to the masses. Moreover, what distinguishes Bictory’s marketplace from all others in the NFT space is its inheritance of Concordium’s inherent Identifiable privacy feature.

The benefits of this feature know almost no bounds as it helps raise security, curb unsolicited NFT transactions, and better the user experience. The funds from the received grants will be used to implement bleeding-edge technologies, seal deals with partnership leads in the pipeline, and put the marketplace in the face of everyone that matters.

The internet’s bridge between people and institutions has indeed been a launchpad of technological advancement. Because of it, several tools for handling and managing human interaction and data have seen the light of day. As a matter of fact, without it, Big Data would have never been a thing as we would never have had the means to handle such an amount of data without the artificial and human intelligence it pulls together to achieve a cause. It’s an invention to be thankful for. Thanks, Sir Tim.

It’s true that human wants are insatiable and that the internet met a lot of what we wanted in human communication across the distance barrier, file sharing, remote collaboration, artificial intelligence utilization, and support, etcetera. Still, in all of these, it left out one of the most fundamental elements or ingredients of human interaction - Trust. The internet at the time wasn’t built to give the user control. The user was meant to be just that, a user. Ownership of the user data (even private) or generated content was solely the platform’s possession. What these platforms could do with these data stores was only regulated by the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR). Given the unsolicited mail we receive from platforms we’ve never seen or subscribed to, we can tell that somewhere we had registered sold us out.

Is there any solution to these problems? Yes, there are. Although still in their early phases, they provide a means for users to own their data and establish trust between human transactions and data manipulation. I’m referring to blockchain technology.

The block what? The BlockCHAIN technology - A technology with a selfless narrative to give users control, privacy, and power back in a trustworthy and transparent manner.

**What is the Blockchain Technology?**

It’s not exaggerated to say that a blockchain is a trust machine. At some point, it was referred to as such because of how it handles data, primarily transactions and scripted agreements, transparently devoid of any third parties.

The technology derives its name from how it operates. In the course of processing transactions, it bundles up transactions into a set called a block, which, if found valid, will be connected or chained to the previous block of transactions. Similar to how it chains block of transactions together, if you chain the names of its two primary processes together, you have its name - blockchain. Simply brilliant!

Formally, the blockchain is defined as an open and permission-less distributed ledger of transactions. Blockchain records are distributed or duplicated across all computers upholding and protecting the network to ensure that data modification cannot be executed by a single person but by an agreement of the network. This is where it derives its immutable nature from. As transactions (or general data) bundled up in blocks reside deeper within the blockchain, to alter them would require the actor (bad or good) to change all of the subsequent blocks down the chain, as well as change all records duplicated across all of the nodes on the network. The actor must do it fast enough before the next block is formed because, according to the longest chain rule, all nodes default to the state longest valid chain as the current state of the blockchain.

Classic blockchain records are open and transparent. They can be scanned through with a block explorer, which is like a search engine to comb through transactions. Blockchain represents user-owned accounts with addresses to protect a user’s ID. Addresses are strings of alphanumerical characters which serve as an account reference, similar to how an email address is used to reference an email account. They keep the user anonymous but allow them to prove their ID with a private key from the address-key pair. This way, it maintains trust by being transparent while still keeping its users unknown.

Besides the famous Bitcoin, there are tons of renowned blockchain solutions in operation, either created to solve the issues of its predecessor or to attack an entirely new problem. They include Ethereum, Cardano, Binance Smart Chain, Ripple, Solana, Avalanche, etcetera.

**How does it work?**

As previously described, blockchain records are built to be immutable records, thus keeping entries made inalterable unless the entire network agrees on that alteration.

But how is this agreement reached? By a mechanism called a Consensus mechanism.

Upon addition of a new transaction, it is queued up with other submitted transactions from users on the network. When it is their turn, these transactions are scrutinized, and their validity confirmed by the network of computers before bundling them together to form a new block. A block primarily holds a list of transactions, two digital signatures (known as hashes), one from the previous block and its own. It’s also timestamped. Typically, a block has a finite size. Transactions are bundled up to that size specification (it differs for different blockchain solutions), with all of the data listed beside its hash. Its hash is generated when it is connected to the previous block. The consensus mechanism comes in to determine what computer in these networks of computers will chain this new block to the previous ones by digitally signing it or hashing it before communicating and cross-referencing it with its peers on the network.

Different networks take different approaches. The Bitcoin network takes the Proof of Work (PoW) approach. Same as Ethereum, although Ethereum is on the verge of taking a different consensus route - to the Proof of Stake (PoS) consensus mechanism.

The Proof of Work consensus algorithm makes the network of computers race to sign the new block as it incentivizes whoever crosses the finish line first. It fundamentally makes computers on the network calculate a computationally difficult cryptographic puzzle. The first person to get the answer is given the right to sign or chain the new block to the previous one, first in its local copy, before broadcasting it to every other computer on the network. This process is now commonly referred to as mining, and the computers are referred to as miners. This process is named so because the rewards come in as a freshly minted Bitcoin, previously locked away from circulation. PoW may be a healthy competition between the computers on the network, but it’s not healthy for the environment because of its immense energy consumption.

PoS, another prominent consensus algorithm, takes a different approach by randomly selecting computers on the network based on their stake in a verifiable manner. This time, these computers are referred to as validators. Blockchains with the PoS consensus algorithm include Cardano, Binance Smart Chain, Concordium, Solana, Celo, etc.

**What is the future of this technology?**

The development path this technology will take is already beginning to reveal itself. The future advancement of this technology is leaving behind some visible footprints today already. To put some order to our speculation, let’s consider the blockchain trilemma - the challenge of improving security, scalability, and decentralization simultaneously.

The adverse environmental impact of PoW and cost of operation significantly dampen the extent to which networks that apply the consensus mechanism can get decentralized. Not only is it environmentally unfriendly, but the entry barrier also gets higher the larger it gets due to the increase in the mining difficulty to keep the block production time fixed.

PoW is also very expensive and slow in terms of throughput and fees. The Bitcoin and Ethereum network (both of which are currently PoW) process within a range of 3 to 15 transactions per second. The fees go through the roof when the number of transactions at any moment is at its peak. Many experts have opined that if this technology ever disrupts the traditional payment giants like Visa and Paypal, these transaction flow rates must climb up to thousands per second while keeping fees minimal.

Decentralization and scalability aside, the current state of blockchain security is quite unimpressive. Hacks and smart contract exploitations are the order of the day. Not many know why because, in many cases, the hacks have different causes. Sometimes engineering mishaps, other times infrastructural weaknesses or user mistakes. To improve security, the current generations of blockchains have resulted in data sharding, relay & parachains, novel consensus mechanisms, multi-sig core contracts, etcetera, all in a bid to cushion the effects of an exploit, rarely eliminating the possibilities.

An ideal blockchain would max out the important chain traits mentioned above without compromise. For scalability, newer generations of blockchains are tilting towards PoS but with some tweaks. Solana, for example, has included a decentralized way to measure time, which it refers to as Proof of History (PoH), to cut off the time delay that results from node communication to ascertain block order. The result has been impressive so far as its blockchain can boast of the capacity to handle up to 65,000 transactions per second and more as the network grows.

On the other hand, decentralization is a tricky problem to solve, but the Proof of Stake approach seems more promising than its PoW counterpart. The Delegated Proof of Stake (DPoS) is gaining more prominence by the day because of its capacity to achieve more decentralization. It does this by giving more token holders power over the network. They can elect a few network governors by backing them with their stakes on the network.

The applied solutions to improving securities so far have proved almost futile. This is primarily because attack vectors come in different forms rendering any previous defense strategy impotent. New blockchains are taking a different approach by adding a means to identify the attacker to their defense strategy. Fourth-generation blockchains are designing a new narrative of identifiable privacy, also known as a sovereign identity. This is an on-chain identity that is mapped to your real-world identity while still maintaining anonymity and privacy. Celo does this by mapping your address to your phone number, and Concordium links your address to your government-approved ID. Systems like these give these blockchains an edge to investigate crimes on-chain, should unprecedented attack vectors penetrate their defenses.

Future blockchains are pressing towards attaining complete decentralization, security, and scalability, aptly learning from their predecessors’ weaknesses and improving them. We can expect a future where blockchains and the apps built on top of them implement consensus mechanisms that can take a growing number of participants without raising the barrier of entry. Perhaps, it could be an improved version of the DPoS capped with Solana’s PoH.

We should also expect and welcome a future to tighten security and help regulators enforce more consumer protection laws. More models of identifiable anonymity or privacy get implemented while still maintaining the spirit of decentralization. Users will have a full right to their data and identity, but by consensus, that right can be temporarily revoked for the greater good of the network. One could say we will be entering the era of distributed or decentralized regulations. The traditional government will work with the governors of a blockchain network to institute sanity in this already wild west of the blockchain space.

In conclusion, blockchain has developed tremendously since it was first proposed in a project in 1991. The development is beyond visible by only considering the Bitcoin and Ethereum blockchains. It has met many needs and filled several gaps, but we need it to meet more needs. We need it to be faster, more secure, and more decentralized. Newer blockchain solutions are aiming towards this. As they say, the best way to predict the future is to create it. The future is being created already. Pay close attention, so you don’t find yourself on a sinking ship.

Northstake Research has released its Concordium Return on Stake report for February!

Following empirical data gathered between the 31st of January and the 2nd of March 2022, the leading staking partner of next-gen blockchain networks, Northstake, with a few of its Concordium nodes as a sample, delivered the staking performances/metrics of nodes on the 4th-gen network, highlighting the strong incentives for nodes to become finalizers rather than bakers on the network. Below are a few takeaways.

**Key takeaways:**
- Mean annualized return on stake for bakers was 10.47% during February, down from 15.4 during January due to a significant increase in the total stake.
- Mean annualized return on stake for finalizers was 11.51% during February
- RoS volatility decreased relative to January with the total stake settling at a level of 8.2bn on February 7th and growing steadily from there

Ah, March! A month filled with unprovoked surprises from a tweeted challenge to a slap in the Oscars, indeed a month of surprises, and speaking of surprises, your number one crypto team just made a big announcement in our last AMA with Concordium. You haven’t heard yet? Well, hold on to your hats cause we might blow them off.

The month of March was indeed one of staying on course and filled with excitement for the team. As we inched closer to Q2, we looked to kick off another phase of the mission in delivering a reliable, secure and decentralized ecosystem for you.

The goals set and achieved so far are opening the gateway for greater ones. Without further ado, let's get you up to speed with what’s been happening with Bictory Finance.

Picasso once said, "Beauty is in the eyes of the beholder", okay, that probably wasn't Picasso’s quote and we should definitely google who the author is, but we truly beheld beauty in the entries submitted to our first fan art contest. While the airdrop gave us a pathway for exposure, the art contest blew our minds and strengthened our communities. We got not only our community participating but other artists, digital creators, and even nail technicians pulling out beautiful art inspired by Terrestria. The contest led to an 81.25% increase of real & enthusiastic people joining our Twitter and Telegram channels. Creatives of all kinds submitted their unique art pieces, even a 360 sculptor. 

We thoroughly enjoyed and were impressed with all the art entered into the competition. We are truly humbled by how much love, ingenuity, and hard work all our contestants put into it, especially the bull on one grandma's wall.

Sadly, all good things must come to an end. we have closed the art contest with our shortlisted winners announced. We're contacting some of these artists, helping them create their own NFT collections and be full-blown BictoryNFT creators. We are very keen on engaging and enriching our community members in the best way possible.

**BICTORY’S SPACE CHATTING**

### What is Terrestria? 

Terrestria, the genesis and only collection with added utilities on a burgeoning chain, is a collection of 9,999 monumental NFTs in 2D and 3D spatial variations and funky swags. 4,999 in 3D and 5,000 in 2D.

The collection is inspired by eleven animals selected to keep alive the memory of some extinct animals, acknowledge some significant to financial markets, and some added for their cuteness. NFTs of the Terrestria collection are seen as an on-chain monument for these selected creatures. But they are not from here. 

They may look like animals from earth, but they are from BIC-III - a planet devoid of humans where animals do not go extinct and have developed human-like intelligence, crafting devices & machines to meet their needs - and are called BICmals. There’s a whole Sci-Fi story behind their origin ready to be rolled out. 

To bring these BICmals to life, Bictory finance's in-house designers in collaboration with some of the best designers in the world with previous work experiences with Bollywood, Netflix and Hollywood. The NFTs will live on an interoperable blockchain that keeps privacy and user protection at the forefront of its design, Concordium. The BAYC of Concordium - Terrestria

NFTs are on the main stage now, billions of dollars have exchanged hands simply because of the ownership acquisition of these Non Fungible Tokens. One cannot really say why such insane amounts of money are poured into JPEGs on-chain but one can tell that if this is to continue after all of the hype, NFTs need to make some convincing offerings and use cases that justify the current hype value attributed to it. 

Non Fungible Tokens, NFTs for short, are unique cryptographic tokens on the blockchain which serve as a certificate of ownership for any digital content. Content in this regard could be anything ranging from a JPEG, gif, short clip, text document, or even a tweet. Their immutable and non-interchangeable nature makes them suitable to be guaranteed content holders to prove that ownership is for whoever holds the keys to the tokens. A simple yet profound invention that has been and still can be applied in a number of ways unprecedented.  However, its most popular use case at the moment is in the ownership of art JPEGs and gifs, especially cartoonish or computer-generated portrait shots of a real or fictitious animal.

Many would argue that JPEGs or gifs are technically not the most difficult to create and duplicate - a photograph takes less than a second to capture and tweets are just accidental thoughts launched out for people to see etcetera. While this is fundamentally true, the creative process put in, to design art, capture an epic shot, make a video or even draft a tweet thread is invaluable and can almost not be price tagged. Still, this doesn’t completely justify $10M dollar purchases of crypto punks or $7M XCOPY’s caricature art value. However, we can make good peace with this when we consider how the value ascribed to art is almost always sentimental and how humans make irrational and impulsive purchases every time. NFTs just made this a little bit more obvious. 

Sentiments are fickle and the foundations of a whole industry cannot be left to stand in such uncertainty. Standing on sentiments, a piece of single news is all it takes to send the hype cascading down, with billions of dollars wiped out of the market that any crypto veteran is already used to. When it comes to this, the ones who HODL, do so either because they are just made of diamonds especially their hands or because of the benefits (besides capital gains) they can access holding any particular NFTs - The NFT Utilities. 

It should be clear now that this article is not about the general use of NFTs to serve as a digital content ownership certificate. It’s about the benefits that can be derived from holding the certificate of a particular art JPEG from a collection. Some holders are fine with just being able to prove ownership of the content held within their NFTs and could not be more indifferent about the market. But the $25B market is driven by the emotionally-detached NFT flippers and so, supply must change form to the nature of demand. 

The key to sustaining this “owned JPEG” industry then becomes attaching a real-world value to incentivize holding NFTs even when the market takes a sharp turn downwards. Some of the utilities notable collections use are outlined as follows;

- **Full IP and Commercial Rights Transfer **- HODLers would like to fully own their NFTs in order to build a brand or an identity around it. It almost makes no sense to pay all those millions of dollars for an NFT and not have the right to use it to make more money. Early NFTs like Cryptopunks had these rights restrictions, until Yuga Labs, creators of Bored Apes Yacht Club, bought them over. The market glaringly reacted positively as the sales of Punks jumped up.  

- **Direct and Direct Monetary Incentives** - Teams with an ecosystem of products build inclusive NFTs which interact with the product ecosystem and leverage benefits exclusive to holders like discount fees, gradual distribution of monetary reserves, and airdrops. You didn’t receive any ape coins because you weren’t a bored ape holder. Either by collaboration with third-party staking services or providing the service directly, NFT projects now offer holders the possibility of even staking the non-fungible tokens to earn a passive income. 

- **Access to Platforms** - Starting with discord groups, NFT collections have private channels with access granted to only holders of the project NFTs. It stretches more than that to apply across a full product restricted to only holders.  

- **Access to Celebrities, Events and Social Gatherings.** 

- **Voting rights**

 

NFT finds its value from a number of factors, sentiments being the first one. However, in order for it to move past being a bubble, especially in this frenzy that it’s being hyped to, collections are integrating tangible benefits to keep holders from letting go when the market takes a sharp turn downwards. This includes monetary incentives, access and rights to give holders a reason to hold as they can see how they benefit from “a JPEG” IRL. Indeed, sustainability can be found in utilities. 

To keep the NFT industry standing, holding these tokens must open a doorway to an avalanche of opportunities. Sentiments alone just won't do it.

### The Storyline
The Genal blood pulse intoxicates. It unleashes the once-thought tamed side of the giant-sized inhabitants of BIC-III revealing the inherent savages with rage and bloodlust they actually are, even seemingly harmless creatures.

BIC-III is one other planet that supports life besides ours yet to be discovered by NASA - only animal life. It resides in a planetary system adjacent to ours. The gigantic planet, relative to ours, is home to creatures with an uncanny likeness to ours but with “super” abilities. In their hefty sizes, BIC-mals, as they are called, communicate with a “lingua franca”, collaborate and build. With their human-like intelligence, they’ve built a civilization that can almost be described as futuristic.

Nothing has escaped the grasp of their high-level intelligence: BIC-mals have erected skyscrapers, built organisations, designed and developed incredible fashion and rock it well (as you can see), and perhaps most interestingly, decoupled the food chain. The BIC-bivores or BIC-B’s for short, earth’s herbivores analogue, have no problems, the engineers on BIC-III have cultivated and nurtured lush green vegetation on the ice-cold planet. The needs of the analogue of carnivores on earth, known as BIC-carnines or BIC-C’s, are met by synthesized meat and the flesh of offenders.

BIC-mals consider themselves as the first and the smartest animals in the multiverse and BIC-III to be the origin of animal life anywhere in the conceivable and inconceivable space. As much as we know, the planet still preserves animals that are already extinct here on earth including the woolly Mammoth, Sabre-toothed Cat, Dodo bird, Tasmanian tiger, Quagga, Sea Cow, Great Auk etcetera. Some say there are pieces of evidence of living dinosaurs but none of the existing

However it’s not all sunshine and roses. BIC-III is faced with an apocalyptic conundrum. While things went fairly well for many years, twelve million years into its existence, due to a depleted BZ layer, every Genostice, a period when the planet had longer nights, which coincided with Earth’s halloween with a 6-year interval, was literally a Genocide on the planet. The Genal blood pulse was an annihilating event. Just before this period, Genos, BIC-III’s star, begins to let out a steady radial pulse that spreads out towards all of the planets that orbit it. This pulse carries with it some radiation that activates some chemical reactions (and keeps the reactions going) in the BIC-III’s atmospheric gases. The product gases of this reaction knockout all BIC-mals first for 168 hours (1 Earth Week), and then when they wake up, they do with insatiable bloodlust and rage.

Every sense of civilization or domestication is lost in every BIC-mal. It is written all over their blood-red eyes. Fathers devour sons and Mothers, daughters, or the other way round if the opportunity presents itself, in addition to everything & everyone else that crosses their path in this period of the purge. This apocalyptic period lasts for a quarter of the entire BIC-III year (about 1 Earth Year) and before they regain sanity, they are knocked out for another 1 Earth Week, after which they wake up without memory of their barbaric actions.
